But they were also very rugged, as adventurers took them to explore South America, fly low over African plains to film wild game (one of the very first African wildlife films was shot from an S-38) and they were used extensively in Hawaii. 70 years ago, before there were helicopters, S-38's were flying tourists by mountain waterfalls, over volcanoes, and at palm tree level over vast, empty Outer Islands beaches.
