purchased an S-38 to make an expedition to the jungles of Brazil to research the Carnauba Palm, a source of high quality wax. The S-38 was named "Carnauba" and they made the trip in 1935. The amazing story here is that grandson Sam Johnson had an exact flying replica built by Buzz Kaplan of Born Again Restorations and completely retraced the

expedition to Brazil in 1998 in the S-38 replica. The new S-38 is now the only flying S-38 in

existence and continues the Sikorsky legend of this great classic of American aviation.
