One cannot forget the Navy UF-1 "Albatross", a beloved seaplane, especially among crashed and shot down pilots of the Korean War era.

Designed during WW-II to replace the Navy

J3F "Goose", the Albatross didn't actually

appear until 1947. By then the Navy was loosing

interest in seaplanes and more interested in

nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers. While

the Navy did acquire them, including the Coast Guard, the biggest customer surprisingly was the U.S. Air Force- because in 1947 the newly

created USAF was given the task of air-sea

rescue for All Services, including the U.S. Navy.
