The "China Clipper", at the Pan Am Treasure Island base, props spinning, casts off lines and prepares to take-off for Hawaii . In the back ground is the S.F.-Oakland bay bridge. Clipper take-offs were so exciting for commuters that they would stop their cars on the bridge to watch the clippers leave the water and head out over the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. It was the 1930's version of a NASA space shuttle launch. |
