In early 1940 Pan Am moved their operations from Ford Island to their own new facility on Pearl Harbor's middle loch at Pearl City peninsula. Seen here is the "China Clipper" moored next to Pan Am's beautiful and romantic "South Seas" Hawaii location. Curiously, it was near the Hawaii Base Pan Am dock that a Japanese mini-submarine was detected by a Navy destroyer and sunk at the very beginning of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This was far inside the harbor area. |
