Editorial It is incredible to realize the enormous changes that took place because of the attack on Pearl Harbor. But Pan American Airways also played a major historic role in these events, yet amazingly, the only actual evidence of their having been in Hawaii is a very old rusting and dilapidated pier. Only a very small brass marker, which is hard to find, notes that Pan Am once operated there. It is really a disgrace to see such an important part of Pacific and Hawaii history given such a poor representation. In fact, probably 99% of Hawaii's population know nothing about where Pan Am operated or what they did in Hawaii. We sell our posters to remind people that something really great and classic once happened in Hawaii, but to think that the actual historic location of these activities is just a forgotten dead end road and a rusting old pier is truly a sad statement. PS: The PAA Marker is also in the WRONG location! This was NOT the PAA Base Site. |
