This was one of many small but well populated military aircraft airstrips located all around Oahu and the neighbor islands during World War II. This B-24 at Kualoa airstrip north of Kaneohe Bay during 1943, was parked under an artfully camouflaged revetment (the camo-nets were made by military contracted lei-makers- giving them lots of wartime work) , and there were many more like them for P-40's, P-47's and B-17's. Another air attack by Japanese planes was still considered very possible even in 1943 and great efforts were made to disperse the huge number of military planes out to as many small hidden airstrips as possible. |
