Hawaiian Airlines new DC-3, on a training flight (over the now Hawaii Kai area) just weeks prior to the Japanese attack on Hawaii. On December 7, a Japanese Zero flew by strafing Rogers Airport and struck the DC-3 in the cockpit, setting it afire. Coming back for a second pass, the Zero struck the cockpit again, this time setting off a fire extinguisher, which put the fire out. This true story became part of  "Ripley's Believe It Or Not!"
