"The Spirit of St. Louis", 1957 stars Jimmy Stewart as Charles Lindbergh. Stewart was a bit old to be playing the young Lindbergh but but it still captures, in reviewing today, the kind of "can do" character Lindbergh possessed and reminds viewers of this great aviation milestone. It is also a good film for historical details and fortunately captures an era in aviation when people really did fly by the seat of their pants, well before all the electronics of today. Lindbergh had a real genius, and luck, in dealing with aeronautical problems, but he never liked the publicity and fame his exploits created. |
