Historical Background : How the 1930's led up to Japan and the U.S. at War

Over 60 years later, it is increasingly clear that December 7, 1941 was a major turning point in World History. Certainly, there can be few

citizens of the United States or Japan that did not have their lives altered by the huge and

terrible Pacific War. The effects go back for

several generations. Family members who fought in the war, were wounded, killed or

imprisoned. And all the civilians who suffered as much as well. The history of World War II and the Pacific War remains some of the most

astonishing and riveting reading of all time.

Rather than attempt to go into all the wide-ranging geopolitical and economic aspects of the Pacific War, the section here deals primarily with how aviation and PAA seaplanes played

an important role in what was a "Cold War",

much the same as the one between the

U.S. and U.S.S.R. in the 1950's to 1990's.

The difference obviously is that the 1930's

Pacific Cold War ended in a total all out war that lasted about 3 and a half years and ended in the complete and total defeat of the Japanese

Empire- completely altering Japan's history.
